One way to stay in touch with us is through our Email Newsletter. These usually go out once a month with updates on our church events and perspectives from staff and leaders. We would love to keep in touch with you too!
Back in the Day
In 1975, Chuck Smith Jr. started teaching a Bible study in the home of Jim and Fran Counter in Dana Point. After constant growth, they founded Calvary Chapel of Dana Point on a four-acre, hilltop property above the harbor.
A few years went by, and God continued to draw people into our doors to hear the word and join in worship, which at that time was considered 'cutting edge.'
Meanwhile, the local hangout, Capistrano Lanes, was losing its popularity, and eventually shut down. God had something else in store for it.
In the Summer of 1985, we closed escrow on the bowling alley and began renovations. Next time you walk through our sanctuary doors, you might catch an imaginary glimpse of bowling lanes headed right towards the stage.
As the location of CBC has changed over the decades, so has our identity. In our early years, we were known as rigid, almost militant, young Christians who were abandoning their shaggy hair and flip flops for pomade and ties. Since then, the way we do church has relaxed a bit, without compromising the fundamental truths found in scripture. While we began as a branch of Calvary Chapel, we eventually became an independent church in 2002. As far as our culture is concerned, we have ironically transformed back into that free-spirited, sandal wearing, beach community.
Putting People in Touch with God
Putting people in touch with God is not just a catchy tagline we place by our name. It is the reason we exist as a church in this community. It is why you attend our services, engage with our community, or volunteer in our ministries. It is a calling, a goal, and a way of life for us.
Whether we are putting children in touch with God, or families, students, babies, couples, men, women, seniors, orphans, singles, addicts or homeless, our purpose remains the same ... to point them to the One who has redeemed them and can make them whole.
We strive to be a church that welcomes anyone and everyone in with open arms the way Jesus did. Come check us out and get to know who we are. You can learn more about our staff and leadership online, and also contact us if you would like. Most importantly, we would love to meet you in person, so come on in and introduce yourself.
