Do you remember home? Do you remember the familiar smells of walking into your own home? Think back to when you were a small child, being tucked into your cool, clean sheets, feeling safe and sound.
Unfortunately, for many people, going home is painful and not a safe place. We may have even run away from home. Perhaps you remember how good the concept of home felt? If our bodies enjoy home, how much more do our souls need home?
Now think of home in more spiritual terms. It’s that inner “feeling” that we are safe, connected, whole and secure. Can you remember a time when you felt completely safe and secure, with a sense that all was right in life? Maybe peace just fell over you like a blanket. The truth is, we are all searching for that peace and security in one way or another.
Do you sense that there is something unfulfilled in your life? Some part of your inner self is empty … there’s a hole inside … part of you is not complete. Well, you are not alone. We are all searching for that place. We miss home. Our souls long for home. For each of us, there is a longing for deep connection and fulfillment that can only be filled by going home.
I have good news … The Good News. Jesus is our home. We try so many things in life to fill the void. For some of us it’s drugs, alcohol, sex, sports, TV, movies, food, and even shopping. The list goes on and on, as we do all we can to fill that emptiness.
In Psalm 103, David commands his soul to give praise. He commands his soul to return to God and remember who God is. Through this Psalm, David reveals to us what Jesus did for us on the cross. Jesus is our fulfillment, and He fills the emptiness within us … and it happens through praise.
This week we will journey through Psalm 103, and find Jesus through praise. It is my prayerful hope that you find the answers you are looking for and ultimately find your home in Jesus.
Praise Jesus, find home.
